I do have a few issues with the Chaos Gods and that's that some (namely Nurgle) lacks some units and has a very limited selection. I purchased this game after playing the original two and have to say that despite the few issues with a bit of stutter. We deserved better and this game could have been so much better.

The marketing campaign for this game was almost total lies from start to finish, as bad as when CA misrepresented gameplay of Rome 2 with a fake video.

We have gone from one of the most tactically-enriched franchises in PC gaming(we are still learning things about the older games) to a Skinner-box that tricks people into thinking they're having fun by providing frequent Dopamine hits for grinding numbers higher. 'Strong' here doesn't mean many tactical options that are viable, 'strong' means 'average damage output', which is yet another number to keep pumping higher. The functional design between units is so homogenised the optimal choice is always to bring multitudes of the exact same unit that is as strong as you can afford. You could do with a few radically different units in those games, things that are impossible in games like Warhammer. It used to be a quasi-simulation of pre-industrial warfare, particularly the pitched battles between armies organised into files and ranks, with different roles that enabled the use of different tactics.

The series did not used to be even remotely like that. You can insert as many new currencies, progress bars with different names, all with their own colours but it's just different numbers you are trying to make go up.

Every game made since then is Rome 2 with 'more stuff' bolted on, but no new ideas. Really though the series hasn't progressed at all since Rome 2 in 2013, unlike the years before it when Total War was ground-breaking. By doing this they took advantage of a loyal player-base which had already forgiven them for mistreatment several times no one was told their favourite game series was going to be turned into everything it wasn't, but this would be hidden behind presenting it as 'progression'. Since then CA decided they didn't like making those games any more and wanted to make something radically different, but they continued using the branding for Total War. In actuality, the last Total War game was Fall of The Samurai, released in 2012. Will you conquer your daemons? Or command them?
